ShepFl, There are a lot of things we need to consider regarding the price of parts. Five years ago when I first got interested in old tractors (Olivers in particular), they could be bought cheap. As more of these fixed-up tractors began to be seen by the public, these folks figured they would like to have one also. They figured they were cheap so why not buy one and fix it up? After some hunting they found one but it cost more than the wanted to pay so they passed on it thinking they would find a cheaper one. Later they decide they did want it after all and when they returned to buy it, it was gone. The next one they came across they bought on the spot regardless of price. Didn't want that one to get away. Now they have a tractor that needs parts: lights, sheetmetal, fenders, sheetmetal, wheels, sheetmetal, radiator and, maybe some sheetmetal. They are not going to let a few hundred dollars stop them now, so away they go with cash and Visa in hand. Sellers not wanting to disappoint, price the parts according to demand and the higher the demand the higher the price. The price will only go up as the supply goes down. That is one reason I am struggling with a decision as to what tractor to buy next. I have the opportunity to buy an 1800 C series Oliver with a thrown rod for $1250. I don't think they will ever get any cheaper than that.
