I just recently purchased an oliver 1650 gas and was wondering what the model and serial numbers represent. The model number is 265-21280 and the serial number is 178014-456. From these numbers I have found from this site the tractor is a 1966. What do the rest of the numbers mean. I appreciate any info that anyone may have. thanks, jake

Model number of "265-21280" is the way the tractor was built in the factory. The "265" indicates it is the second generation of the 1650 tractor, first of this model was 165 and last was 465. Each time a change was made, the model number was changed. I believe it was changed from 165 to 265 with the over/under Hydraul shift.
third thrugh fifth numbers is how the tractor was optioned out at the build. First digit is front axle equipment, "2" is adjustable front, second digit "1" is the engine, yours is gas. Last three are more difficult to understand, they are PTO options, like single speed or dual, type of hydraulic system, three point hitch, drawbar type and etc.

Your serial number (first six digits) is indeed a 1966 production tractor. The last three digits is the transmission/final drive that was installed in your tractor.

I thank you very much for your information. Did you work at an Oliver dealership or have you just researched this stuff out of curiosity. Once again thank you for your time. Jake

Is there a cross reference, anywhere, for the last 3 model number designators? I have the list from "The Oliver Gang" site but it doesn't cover the last 3 designators.

Did the 1850 follow the same model number progression, i.e. 185, 285...485?

My 1850 diesel has a model number of 285-24374. Was the "engine type" designator "4" specific for Perkins as opposed to just "2" for diesel?

Thanks,
Myron KY
