I agree with Oliver is King whole heartedly but to stick with the subject, Oliver green is most definitly not the same as JD green. I'm not sure about the earlier models, but from the late '50s on, the colr scheme was Meadow Green and Clover White. Quite dignified and symbolistic choice of colors for a diginied and symbolic tractor don't you think? Not like two day old calf s**t green and yellow. What does that symbolize?

John Deere green has far more class.

Oliver green looks like they got it army surplus after the war, because it was cheap sort of like the rest of the tractor.

Sorry, Tom, I can't comment precisely on the color differences between Oliver and John Deere paint, but suffice it to say they are definetely different.

No, they don't. But the JD people are just uneasy because they don't know anything about Olivers, therefore they fear them and blindly disregard the company's immensely unknown and unappreciated contributions to the industry. Yes, it's sad to say that most JD people are like sheep. It started with one sheep being a JD enthusiast, then the rest simply followed, ignorant and without minds of their own, merely following the masses even though the mass is headed the wrong direction. Maybe someday that first sheep will lead the herd over a cliff to their demise. Until then, we shall just have to contend with these people who blindly follow the wrong color of green. To them, let me say this: Don't criticize what you don't know or understand. If you would simply evaluate the company (and its tractors) without prejudice and learn even the most rudimentary things about it, you would see, as we do, that Oliver, during its lifetime, was the king, is the king, and will always be the king. No one can dispute the facts of history. And history records countless Oliver contributions to the industry from which all other companies, especially JD, benefited. The fact that Tom called Olivers cheap is a true sign that he knows nothing of our beloved company. For Olivers were the most advanced and one of the priciest tractors on the market.

I don't think this kind of arguement will ever be solved, but as an independent ag-repair specialist, I can argue with most of what "OLIVER IS KING" said. I'll shut up now.

Just my opinion, but what are we arguing about?
Both companies made significant contributions to
agricultural and industrial machinery, and that
is a fact. It's unfortunate that Oliver was assimilated into the black-hole of mismanagement
and debt kown as White. These were tractors ahead
of their time as were Deeres. I think if the
circumstances were different, Oliver would be a major player in today's market, and I would only
hope that the pie was big enough for everyone.

I'm not arguing about anything to do with colors. What I'm protesting is people jumping boards, making anonymous postings just to aggravate others. That's childish and a waste of everybody's time.

I'm an Oliver, Cockshutt, and Massey-Harris guy, with my preference being Oliver-built Cockshutts. And if another guy doesn't like Cockshutts, say, that's all the more for me. I don't like John Deere products, but that's only my personal opinion, and I'm not going to run around anonymously or any other way trying to stir up trouble for the people that enjoy them. My rejection of JD products just leaves more for the guys that prefer them. To each his own, however, and enjoy your preference, just don't try to spoil things for others, and keep the commeraderie(sp) inherent to this hobby intact.

There's nothing wrong with a little fun, but I don't think the beginning of this thread was in good sport. Play fair.
