own a fine 880 diesel just rebuilt it.We're gonna remove the bosch pump and put on a roosamaster.Got lines from a 1600 and everything I need to make this switch.Am thinking about a small turbo also. Can I make this work or is there another head that will fit this motor? Can I mount an over/under to this motor or is there not enough room? It has a not working two speed which I was told will slip under more horse if fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have an 880 that I pull with and has the power booster. It is a 2 disc overcenter clutch with a sprag clutch. It shifts down and up firmly under full load with no slippage. If your going to put a turbo on it, I would try and get a 7 main block, otherwise it likely won't stand up

Sorry, new at this. What I said was thanks for the info. I want to keep my original motor for now and see what it will do. Is 100 horse out of reach? Hopefully 75 is possible. I'll ask Larry about the turbo really don't know of a manifold to bolt on, may have to make a flange.I do know the green and yellow folks need to have their heads turned, you know?

75 hp would be pretty easy without a turbo. they are about 60 stock. turn up the fuel delivery and pressure and give the head a good port and polish on the intake side. remove the preheater from the intake manifold and don't run any oil in the air breathers. this should make atleast 75 horse. The stock head could likely work with a turbo with major porting and a custom intake and exhaust system. This would likely make 150 hp plus.

That sounds great! My mechanic (pump builder) says that the roosa master will double the nozzle pressure. If I remove the heater and replace the oil bath air cleaner with a more modern type do you think the head work should still be done? What am I looking at as for as money for head work and is there a shop that makes an exhaust manifold I can use? Do you think the bottom will hold 150 horse? I'd be happy with 90! Will the tranny take this abuse? Anything to beat those you know what's with the yellow wheels! Thanks!

The 880s are a four main with splash lube rods. It likely wouldn't stand too much boost. You could likely get 90 without a turbo if you do major headwork and use the roosa pump. If you're brave you could do the porting yourself with a die grinder, but beware of breaking through in the pinch area. I have done mild porting on my 880, and done what I said in my last post, and I haven't been beat by a deere yet. I can run 4th, sometimes 5th gear in the 5500# class.
