We used the S-55 for a hay ride this weekend, this was the first time I had run it very much in road gear. The rear end is much noisier than our 77. I plan on taking the 3 point off this winter to fix the pump, is there any thing in particular I should look at in the rearend?

I had the same problem about 15 years ago with on a supper 55. I rebuilt the ram cyl, and replaced all the valves. Went through it three times, and the lift still would not work good after it got hot. I never claimed to be a hyd expert, but I decided that was the weaker point about this particular tractor. Did you notice how small the hyd oil reservoir is. The tractor has some outstanding features not found on anything else that I know of, other than the small reservoir. I sold mine to a guy, that has been real happy with it. He never uses it more than a hour a day. In the fall of 1956, the guy that I worked for bought a new one, which I ran pulling a peanut picker. It did a fantastic job, but I left the farm in early 1957, and I know he did not keep it very long before trading it on a MF 35 diesel with 3cyl Perkins. He may have had lift problems, because he normaly kept one for long years. Will someone add on to this please, that has used one for serious farm and long long hours.

My father and I each have a 550 diesel and gas. He bought his new in 65. It has 3400 hrs. has never given any lift problems. Pull a 3 bottom Ford plow all day.

Drain the differrential oil then look for ground up metal. When you remove the lift top you will be removing the entire hyd. system on that one, and you can partly inspect ring gear and pinion if I remember rite, Check with www.olivertractor.com
