I just traded for an Oliver 88 (no serial number) it has an 88 frame and it looks like the tag was on the underside of the dash like a Super. A couple of things about it I would like some info on if anyone knows.

First off, it has a lever on the left side that acts like a torque amp that is not adjusted right. When pushed forward the tractor will go but when pulled back it won't. Is this what I have or is it a hand clutch. The unit is attached behind the bell housing.

Second, it doesn't have a Marvel Shelber carb. It has a large one that I can't read the eniter name of but it begins with a B and looks something like Bennik or something. There is also a 3/4 inch spacer plate between the carb and the intake manifold. I was at first thinking maybe it has been set up for pulling but there is nothing else to indicate that ( special hitch, high amp coil, etc.) Any ideas on this?

thanks!!!

Well bendix used to make carbs, fuel pumps.I would think this is something that was cobbled up and used when the oridunal carb broke.880's came out with mechanical power shift(tourqe amp)THEY FEATURE A clutch for direct and a sprag( overunning)clutch for low. Most likely the sprag is not holding.Look under the frame and rear for casting dates so you know what year and model.

If the sprag is not holding what can be done to fix it? I can't find my I&T manual so I can't look at it right now. Gonna get another one and check all of this stuff out. As for the carb, I am going to have to make or buy a linkage from the governor to the carb and also the rod from the throttle to the governor linkage as well as the pin that goes in it. If I can't get this carb to work right I guess I can trade it to one of these pullers for an origianl one.

The two speed is called a power booster, aprox. 33% reduction is speed. The I&T manual sais they are also in the late super 77/super 88's. clutch is direct drive, sprag gear for low. parts are available.
