Went to look at a truck today and in the corner of his shop the seller pointed out an Oliver outboard motor. Not only have I never seen one, I did not know Oliver made these. How popular are/were they and does anyone have one? I wish I had my camera along on that trip.

Hi from Fond du Lac, Farmer in the Dells. I have never seen one either, but I have seen two ads for them in about the last six monthes. One was in Antique Power magazine and the other was in an auction listing in Kewaskum or someplace like that. Wanted to go to that one but too busy. My info says Oliver produced outboards from 1955 to 1959. In 1960, they had F. Perkins Ltd build the outboards to their design. That was the last year of production. It appears 5hp was the smallest and 35hp was the largest. This is according to C.H. Wendel's book "Oliver Hart Parr".

Oliver bought out the Chris-Craft line in 1955. They produced the Oliver outboards until 1961. There were nearly a dozen different models produced ranging from 5 hp to 35.

The government was giving out appropriations to companies involved in the manufacture of items that would encourage recreational activities. So Oliver jumped into the market with that in mind. Wasn't very successful as they turned the line over to Perkins in England in 1961 or '62.
