Does anybody know anything about the Oliver Hydraulic Front Wheel Assist. I recently got a tractor with one. It's a complicated system. After fiddling around for a while I got to work but it doesn't seem to have much power. It won't pull the tractor. But maybe that's the way its suppose to be since it's suppose to "automatically" apply pressure to the front. The pump seems to work fine. The Hydraulic FWA does not show up in manual I have for the tractor. I wonder if Oliver made a separate manual dedicated to the hydraulic FWA. I don't know what else to check.

I've not had any personal experience with using them, but I'm told that they are not the hottest setup. I'm not sure how much power a good one should have, but they do not work in reverse.

Scott,
My 1850/1950 Oliver Service Manual and I&T-202 manual covers this system. It is my understanding that the system has safety interlock switches in the transmission and clutch. The transmission must be in a forward gear and the clutch released before the FWA system will work. This would explain why it will not pull by itself. That's all I know off the top of my head. I'll be glad to look some things up in the manuals for you, if you want.
What model tractor is, by the way?
Hope this is of some help to you.

I have the Hyd FWA on a 1950-T. It's an exceptionally nice tractor and the Hyd FWA looks cool even if it does not work all that well. It had to pull fairly well at one time because the front tires are worn right down. I was by passing the clutch and Trans disconnect to eliminate those as a problem. I have sales literature that states it has sensors that automatically apply a load to the front. So may it does work but I couldn't tell when I test drove it. I need to get service manual for it. I only have parts manual. Thanks for your help.

I can remember going to service school on those units. I have been trying to remember if we got a service manual on them or not. Also they had a test to see if the unit was working correctly. You bpasssed some switch(S) and then drove it down the road with the rest of the tractor in neutral and it was to reach a certain speed that I remember. There was one around here on an 1850 gas don't know what happened to it.
