Looking at a MM LP but live in a cold climate. Any pros or cons you could share with a rookie? It is sitting right between a 1655 and an 1850 so I have a choice but thought I might consider the MM 950 this round. I believe it is larger than an 1850 but still collecting the info.

The most important thing to remember when using an LP fueled piece of equipment in cold weather is to not shut-off the engine at the end of the day with the ignition. Always shut down by shuting off the Liquid Fuel Valve. Then the next cold day you start the engine, always start the engine using fuel from the VAPOR valve. When you show heat in the engine on the temperture gauge, you may turn on the LIQUID VALVE and shut-off the VAPOR VALVE. Run the engine on liquid and then again shut down the engine by running it out of fuel at the end of the day by shuting off the LIQUID VALVE. You do this because if you have Liquid fuel in the VAPORIZER/ REGULATOR at the start of a cold morning the vaporizer will freeze up the gas orfice and the engine will stop from lack of fuel before you will have heat in the engine. Remember to shut off the ignition after you shut the engine down with the fuel.

Propane will liquify at -40 but typically can be hard starting anytime after -20. Before diesil pick-ups became the norm about half of the trucks around my area ran on LPG. The straight propane set-up ran best but would not start when it was yeally, yeally cold. Many systems had a valve to switch between gasoline and LPG just for starting on the cold days or when you could not get to a propane bullet to fill up. Unless you live north of the 49th parallel you should have no problems.

We had a G1000 LP for a few years in S.E. Michigan, and had no real problems. LP vaporizes at a fairly low temperature (dodn't remember right now) but you had to run it for a long time to get the water warm enough so that you could switch to liquid. When it was really cold (for here) it didn't start well, so we just used another tractor. They won't make full HP on vapor. Make sure the Ampli-torque is in good shape, no easy to fix.
