Though I dont know any of you, I know that the attackers and the attackees are good people, I havent met anyone in this 'new to me hobby' that isnt just a wonderful caring person and would give the shirt off their back to someone who just even stops by to see their toys and ask some questions.

I notice in the board that some people get their chest out and lecture a bit on some things. No big deal, if its of good intent. Sometimes things go beyond good into mean or insulting, and be honest with yourself, you dont do this stuff to be mean or harsh to others. Its a fun hobby that brings people together. Re-read your initial writtings, and consider that not everyone is as experienced as you. Also consider that there is no doubt more than one way to skin that cat, and all opinions are valuable. Cut out the competitive stuff and the I know more than you stuff. Instead, share. Be careful in disagreement of opinion or practice. Remember that this is fun.

Here is a little thing to you guys that know a lot about tools, heavy duty mechanics, and fixing things. 'Dad' didnt show me how to this stuff. I am only 30. I have bought all of the manuals for my tractors. These things are vague, and take a lot of experience for granted. Even with a manual, there is so much left unclear to a novice. I ask many questions, and I study these postings to learn more every day. When you smart guys post your answers, I still dont usually fully understand what you mean. Its new to me, and many others. Show me how to do something once, and I am set for life but until I do it I am a bit nervous of damaging something or myself. Its obvious you have done it, and the confidence reflects. Be aware that we novices are likely the magority on this site, the lurkers who are learning.

Thanks for all that you have shown me in the past, keep up the good and friendly posting.

I could not have said better myself.
I'm trying to keep my "NEW" 1967 1850 Oliver
in top notch working condition so maybe some day my grand children can enjoy her as much as I do. "JUST READ THE MANUAL" does not always answer my novice questions. For those of you who are annoyed with my "stupid" questions, I'm sorry.
For those of you who take the time to pass on some of their knowledge, I am very grateful.
Thanks for all of your help.

I guess I have a hard time with all of this. I don't claim to know alot about Olivers but I do know a little and I am not afraid to post my name for everyone to see. I have cut back on answering questions because of all of the B.S. I have yet to see any of the regulars on here to be 100% right all the time, includeing me. I don't see posts on here from Dennis Baker, Jim Kline, or Dan Ginter because they don't need to try and prove themselves as experts, there actions speek louder than all the words printed here. Why can't those who know the answers just try to help those who don't without it being a contest?

Anonymous, you wrote exactly what I was thinking. I too am new to this site, new to owning 2 Oliver tractors and I'm not a mechanic. I need this forum, I love this forum and all of the information it provides. I'm in a trade where each journeymen may have their own way of getting a job done and although the method may be different, the result may be the same. We teach the apprentices that work with these journeymen to pick out what they think are the best methods, that give the best end results and make them their own to use. I think this forum allows us, the apprentices, find the methods that hopefully will give the results we're looking for by using the knowledge you journeymen are providing us. I enjoy this site and would like to give you guys that post answers to our questions a pat on the back and a hardy handshake.

Both of you just made my day, for two reasons.

1) It's nice to know that those of us who try to help each other are appreciated.

2) While I'm always happy to share what I've learned, I also learn a lot from the rest of the folks who, regardless of experience, are willing to share what they have learned.

Thanks to both of you... and back to my first love, Olivers!

I'm just glad to see you kept plugging away instead of going, Ollie. I was getting pretty disgusted with the bashing on here, so I had to take a break from visiting. Keep up the good work and yes, buying the manual is the best advice in my eyes too, its sometimes understanding the manual that can get a guy:) Thats why this board is here!

Ollie ver:Your right these tractor projects are great fun. Enjoy the learnin' journey and gather
up the wisdom/plums/pearls from many different sites, tractors and postings. When I was growing up an Oliver with a straight
6 cylinder engine (Super?) at the neighbors was at home in the field or the woods. Darn good tractor you know.
My project recently was a dead 1948 John Deere B.
Put on a JD Mark 45 hydraulic loader and sold it this July. Looking for a Farmall Super C or some
other dead tractor but may be a while.
Hope you can get your rigs in the running shape
you want.
