How are the guys running the 5 inch cranks in the antiques? Do they still use the stock rods and will they clear the camshaft OK?

5 inches is not overly hard to do if you use the right rod. do not use the stock rod for this for 2 reasons, first because of clearence and second because it's too short.A real good option is the 251 chrystler rod. It is 7 7/8 long and has a 2 1/8 rod journal diameter. it has a reasonably well clearenced cap and would fit without to much grinding. you can run up to 4 11/16 with that rod and no grinding to give you something to compare to. you will probably have to grind the camshaft a little bit. you want about .090 clearence everywhere. Another thing, if you are not running a rpm limit, leave it stock stroke, go with about 4 3/8 bore and twist it hard. But you still should use a longer connecting rod.
