I heard once that an 1800 engine gear type oil pump would fit in an 88. Is that true? supposedly the gear type pump will develop more volume and pressure than the old vane type, so you can keep much better pressure in a worn engine. Any body have any experience with this? Thanks

Yes, waukesha did put a gear pump in the 88 (190) engines, but not in the oliver application. I have a couple different styles I would be willing to sell. you can get me at 330-939-0124. leave a message, I will call you back as soon as I can.

Indicated oil pressure is nothing more than the measurement of "resistance to flow". While doing what you suggest might make you feel better it has no benefit; if the bearings are worn, the bottom end must be rebuilt.

Before you tear it apart have your mechanic verify that the oil pressure is actually low and that the bearings are actually the culprit. It's possible that the pump is shot and the bearings are OK; replacement with the correct pump would then be indicated.
