I have a 1963 Oliver 1600 Diesel, Row Crop, which I think is the best tractor ever made by any company. Tonight while disking it turned over to 14,900 Hrs. The tractor had a complete major OH, and a new clutch at 8,756 Hrs. Other than that it has never had any other problems. It is only on the third set of tires too. The Hydra-Power is getting a little weak, but I am not suprised seeing how it has so many hours. Does anyone else have a tractor that has lasted 14,000 Hrs, or maybe even longer? I know that mine is not going to die anytime soon.

Well, the 1600 Gas that i'm rebuilding has only about 4000 hrs on the tach, but that broke (from what I was told) in about'79. I wasn't even born yet. It has been parked twice, 1st time for about 2 years before my dad decided to get it running again, had dealer pick it up and just get it runnig again. Then for about 1 year after I decided it just couldn't do anything anymore, could barely move herself when I parked it, and hasn't moved under her own power since, but hopefully that changes in the next few months;)

P.S. -from what I was told, the only time the engine was touched was to remove it to put in a new clutch. Never been opened, and ran USED oil for the past 10-12 years (atleast) of her life, on the same OLD, DIRTY filter that had the old WFE logo on it. It was even starting to rust a little, as was the one on the hydra-power unit. For her hardships, she's been good to us, and I'm just returning a favor.

I had a well drilled last summer, and while watching the old cable tool rig work, commented to the owner that the engine looked like a Herc GO 198 (used in Cockshutt 35 tractors). He said he had had to replace the first one on the rig, that had run over 20,000 hours without any internal work. Started to use a little oil, so he got a new one. He had thought it would be a shame to just throw the old one away, so he still had it at home in his shop. The well came up a dry hole, so he gave me the Herc as a consolation prize. And no, boys, its not for sale- I'm planning to rebuild it for a puller engine for my 35.

Cant say I have ever had a Waukesha engine go that far, I have a 1655 that just turned 8,000 hours with the origional 283 Waukesha in it, but is has been overhauled completly once and top end twice more. It is also getting weak again, and will likely never see 10,000 hrs before it comes apart again. The 1655 of mine is the exception to my Waukeshas, most die young around here for some reason, lost the 1855 engine with 3100 hours, lost the 478 Hurk with 1600 hours (water pump failure), and lost another 283 at 3400 hours.

I do have some Molines that have gone the distance, I have two M-5's over 15,000 each and the one has to be over 20,000 but the tach broke and I cant tell for sure. Still running origional engines, but have been overhauled some along the way. Good slow running tractors.

Take care of that 1600 and see how many more hours you can get out of her.

My 1650G has > 10,000 hours and has never had a wrench on it. No doubt there are others that have done even better than you and I have.

Goes to show those old Waukesha engines are mighty stout!

Well, we own a 1650 gas here, and our block has over 15,000 hours. It has been overhauled atleast 3 times and the crank broke into three parts once, but its still that same block, and the rear end has never been apart. If someone takes care of their tractor, they can expect many hours out of almost any tractor, in my eyes anyway...

What are you smokin? Must be the same stuff my mentaly changelled help uses. Read up a couple of posts and get real. Maybe you use your tractor to get from place to place? Lets see..... 10,000hrs at 50mph would =500,000 miles. Time to rotate the tires! What's the manual have to say on this procedure? Stumped? I think one more drag and you will come up with some BULL@#$% .

Big Wood, I have a suggestion for you, If you don't have anything good to add to the conversation, maybe you should keep your big mouth shut.

blah blah blah I have read your garbage lots of times. May be you tight fisted tight wad wannabes should go to your local imp and purchase a new piece of equipement and give them some support instead of heckling the poor parts guy out of a buck or two on a three dollar gasket. As for a knew hobby I sure enjoy pi$$ing you off. Have a great day!!!

Grow up and grow a brain "small wood". No one drives a tractor at 50 mph, not even you.

Hey Ollie,
Isn't 10,000 plus hours pretty phenomenal for a gas tractor engine? I have always heard that those type hours were more in the Diesel realm. Of course that's assuming good maintenance on both type engines.

Just curious.

Nothing wrong with being "lucky"! But I have to admit, I've had remarkable success with all the engines I've owned. I learned at a very young age that if you take care of them, they take care of you. I've had car/truck engines go 300k miles with never a valve cover or pan off and most of them were not as stout as the Waukesha engines.

I'm careful to never overheat any engine and I do the required maintenace at least as often as the book says. I've also used Mobil 1 for many years now and it certainly has helped.

I have no trouble getting huge amounts of hours (or miles) out of gas engines. With the right care I am not surprized at the 10,000 hours.

I have two tractors with nearly as many hours (both gas) and I have two farm pickups that get used on all of the real crap jobs, and used hard, that have over 500,000 miles each (both gas). It is a matter of care, with a bit of luck thrown in.

As far as Big Wood is concerned, he needs a new hobby.

Makes sense. Good engine to start with, proper maintenance, high quality oil, and a little luck. I need to get some of that luck. ":^)
Thanks,
Myron KY
