Does anybody know of a good block or diesel engine for a 1650. I had done a valve job and put knew injectors (later model with pencil injectors) and then not too much later a rod broke and went through both sides of the block. It's not a pretty sight. Anyway I'm in search of an engine. This is a 1969 tractor.

I wouldent put a cummins in it.. Reasons why becuase they brake crank shafts, thats a $4,000 bill and iw ould put a 3-53T detroit in it with 72 H.P with C55 Injectors you would have a machine thats cheep to run and also has a nice sound to it just keep a good muffeler on it and it will run quiet...

I have 4 Cummins 5.9L diesel engines running on the farm in Oliver tractors plus two more, one on a genset and one in a semi and none have never broken a crankshaft. And to be honest I have less trouble and get more reliabilty out of the Cummins engines around the farm than any of the Perkins, Cat, Moline, or Waukesha's that I have running. There is nothing wrong with a Detroit, I have serviced and run two of them as well, but putting one into a 1650 may be more of a challenge than you want. It can probably be done, but it will not fit as nicely.

Just my 2 cents.

i honestly think you should replace the engine with a stock engine, instead of paying the big dollars for a cummins, and then you would have to be trimming out the tub and all. Shep has done it before is that interests you to do it.

If you are using the tractor for work and are not concerned with keeping it origional I would suggest a repower to a Cummins engine. The Waukesha engines are good engines for their day, but they are 30 year old diesel technology. The reliability and power of a Cummins engine in an Oliver tractor is impressive to say the least.

I just finished a 1655 with a 5.9L Cummins engine this last spring and put the entire conversion on my website if you would like to check it out. It is a little pricy up front to put a Cummins in, but it will outlast and out preform the Waukesha for years to come.

Just a thought for you.....

Look down about 3 posts to "310..." It has some suggestions on how to locate a replacement engine.

While your at it, you may want to consider replacing the waukesha engine with a cummins or a perkins engine- this sort of thing happens alot with that engine. How many hrs did it have?
