I just bought a Oliver backhoe/front loader. There is a serial number 140287-583 located on the tractor near the clutch pedel. I'm trying to find the year and model of the tractor. I need a front axle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for the info. The numbers on the hoe are 513 and the numbers on the loader are 578. The lift arm serial number is A1689. The hole in the center of the axel is oval shaped and the outer shafts of the spindles is broke on the bottom. Does anyone know if there is another tractor that would have an interchangeable (perferably heavy duty) front end for this tractor.

This is for Doug and Frank. The 2-44 with LL is a 588 loader the 2-44 with one L is a 578 loader. There should also be a serial number tag on the loader. Frank I remember going to one sales meeting and they were promoting the 550 with a backhoe and loader for Cemetaries. The key selling point was you as the dealer were probably close to these people cemetrary trustees or in some case township trustees who may also be your farmer customers. It was aimed at the rural areas
and some of these people may already own an Oliver. They even had a grave bucket for them.

Thanks for your info on the 2-44LL. The loader has a symbol on the front arms that look like a circle with an M or W inside of it(depends which way you look at it). Curiously, the SAME symbol appears on the support arms of my MF220 backhoe (at least that's the closest I can identify the hoe with vertical feet) that I have mounted on the 2-44LL. Were these merely third party-made attachments that were made by the same company?? (maybe Ware??). I'd like to find more info on the 588 loader as well as how the 513 hoe compares with the MF220 (circa 1945?)
Any further info would be appreciated
Thanks

I agree it sounds like a 550. The non adjustable front axles are pretty hard to find. I would take it to a machine shop and have them put a steel bushuing in the pivot and install a new pin. I guess I assume you need a axle because the pivot is shot, this is a common problem.

Could you please post a picture? I have a 2-44LL which is also a 550 based unit (1967) and I'd like to see your loader.
Thanks

By the location of the serial plate I would say that you have a 1963 550. It is probably the industrial model with the model 613 backhoe and 615 loader. I remember my cousin having a new one on his lot. The distrist field rep bragged that it could dig a grave in 15 min. I thought that sure was a strange selling point.
