I've had way too much experience with a certain 4-270. We traded one in and it was a serious lemon. When we pulled the powershift drainplug we had to use a screwdriver to push the metal out of the way so the oil could run out. I would have had a rough time sleeping at night if I was the previous owner. The ONLY thing we haven't rebuilt is the engine. The mechanic that was working on it quit and didn't finish the job, so naturally I had a very large pile of parts to reassemble. We rebuilt the powershift completely and because of lack of maintenence we had to do some serious machinework on the housing (BIG bucks), the previous owners slammed it into park while it was still moving, so we gutted the rear end and machined the busted casting and made some new parts to work in its place. A couple of new gears in the transmission, along with some new shift forks and rails, a good used ring and pinion for the front diff, a used pinion for the rear diff, (you don't want to know what I had to do to find these), EVERY bearing and race was replaced,(NO exceptions) axles were dissasembled and the metal shavings were cleand out, junk planetary parts were replaced, new bearing, properly adjusted and reinstalled, PTO was completely rebuilt, hydraulics were completely dissasembled and cleaned, worn parts were replaced, new scavenge and lube pumps were installed for the powershift, the powershift control valve was completely rebuilt, and all the electrical was straightened out. I have driven it since I reassembled it and was in the process of fine tuning some pressure adjustments when we got busy again and I havent had time to finish it. This tractor is in pristine mechanical condition and very good cosmetic condition. It is for sale. I work at Maibach Tractor in Creston, Ohio
