Have an Oliver I bought at auction and cannot identify its model. I have been all over the tractor trying to find a serial number that matches published lists with no avail. On the rear axle, I see "ROWCROP" so I am assumming that it is a row crop model. Here is what I have found regarding numbers:

Clutch housing:

101487A

Rear frame along right side:

101472A

Engine (6 cyl. gas), left side toward rear:

185220F
104306A
2170

I would truly appreciate any help anyone can provide me in idenitifying this old Olie...

You do have a 770. Have you looked on the left side of the dash for a serial number? Also if you ever have the thermostat housing and or the valve cover off, a date will be stamped with a number set when the head was machined. This may help you come a little closer to when it was made. They were introduced in 1958. I looked at a 550 this week and the owner said there was no serial number, but there was. It had about 5 coats of paint over it.

Thanks for your reply! I will take a closer look at the dash this weekend for the serial.

Looking at an Oliver book that I have, it indicates that a 770 has 6F-2R speeds. The Olie I have only has 4F-1R speeds. So, I am a little confused over it being a 770.

John, last week I sent a U2U message per your request and had not heard back. Was wondering if you ever received it. Thanks...

Brad,

Thank you very much for the response. May I ask which number I provided, led you to say it is a 770? Thanks...

I guess I should be a little more specific, you definitely have a oliver 770 engine. the 185 in your block number is the 77, s77, 770, 1550, 1555, 2-62&2-63 series of engines. the 180 is the s55,550,66,s66,660,551,552,2-44 engines. the 190 is the 88,s88,880,1600,1650 gas,1655 gas, 2&4-78 gas and the white 2-70 gas engines. the 195 is the 6 cyl 99, s99, 950 engines and the 221 is all the 7main engines ranging from the 1650 dsl to the 1955. the 104 number says that it is a 770 block as the 77's would have had a "M" number and the 1550-1555 would have been a 160 number. the number on the rear end I'm pretty sure is a 770 rear end housing but I forget off the top of my head.
