Looking for a engine block for a oliver 1550. I have been told a 770 has the same motor. I have a cracked water jacket and would prefer to repair if anybody has done this before and can recommend a way to do so. IF it's not worth it, anyone know were I could find a replacement..,.

Scott,
There is a new stick rod for welding cast iron.
Look in google "block repair".
Worked great on a exhaust manifold.

The chances of a successful long-term repair are slim. Depends on exact characteristics of the crack.

If you really want to keep the tractor, I suggest you find another 1550 that has a sound engine but is for sale real cheap due a bad transmisson/final drive or some other serious problem. This way you will not only have a decent replacement engine you can swap in as a whole but lots of spare parts that fit your tractor.

If you don't want to keep it for the long haul, post back and I'll give you a phone number or two of places that buy dead tractors and part them out.

The Tractor was purchase new by my dad and I'm helping him get it back up and running. If you have a source for part tractors, either a 1550 of 770 engine will work.

Thanks
scott

I have a farmall "A" that I patched the engine block using JB weld. Keep in mind I rarely use the Tractor for heavy work. Also the "A" has no pressure in the system. No water pump either. By the way, I have 770's and they have 1550 pistons in them. Just a thaught?????

Thanks for the response. I believe the D 1550 has pressure in the system. not sure if JB weld will hold under pressure...

If the crack is external I would pin it. Much more reliable than stick welding.
