I am trying to learn more about this tractor. Its coming up for auction and I am interested. Is it a reliable tractor as a utility tractor, snow removal and farm yard work? What problems are they known for so that I can look for them? What HP is this tractor, loaded weight for hauling?
It appears to be well kept with a near new hydraulic loader. What should this tractor bring in the midwest at the auction?

Stick to a gas tractor winter use.

I bought this 1750 from a good freind for $3000. It runs great. Also picked up a 7 foot blower for it. I have a half mile lane. Using a loader leaves windrows and piles that drift in deeper as the wind blows. And here in north east Iowa it likes to blow in winter.

Ollie,
I feel stupid now, but I just rechecked my information on this tractor. It is a 1555 with a two way hydraulic loader. Not a 1755. What can you teach me about this model.
What is the HP on this tractor and if you know the loaded weight. I assume it is in the 55-60 range which makes it similar to that AC170 That I looked at yesterday.
Thanks for any help

Gas = 232 ci, 53 hp, and 6,800 lb.

Great engine but if you want to push deep snow, especially deep wet snow, use CaCi in the rears (or use chains). I use CaCi in my 1650 with 18.4x34's and rarley spin a tire. With 1610 loader and the ballasted tires my 1650 actually weighs a little over 10,000 lb (shipping weight was 7,000 lb).

Thanks For the info guys. Like I said it is a nice looking tractor and the loader looks above average shape.
Ollie where are you from. You sound like your up on the cold weather and snow removal concerns.
Any idea what this tractor could bring at the auction in the upper midwest?
Thanks again!

I'm in WI on the shores of Lake Superior 70 mi east of Duluth. I've plowed lots of snow at -30F and in 40 mph winds. I like snow season, it's lots more fun than deer fly season.

$2,500 to maybe $3,500 depending on condition, tires, loader, hours.

I own a 1555 diesel . The horse power is about 53 for the diesel engine and I think I have heard the gasoline engine is the same . Tractor is strong from a pulling standpoint - I have pulled an 11 foot no till drill on hilly ground using the 1555 with no problem and I used to use the 1555 a lot to run an 8 foot heavy duty bush hog . Top speed on transmission is only about 11 mph so if you are going to be driving it between farms be prepared to take some time . Transmission has six foward and two reverse speeds . My 1555 has the two speed hydra drive auxillary transmission between the bell housing and the main transmission which means you can shift down 1/2 gear without putting clutch in and changing gears . My only complaints with tractor are : (1) what I think are weak hydraulics especially when the tractor first starts up - mine has the electric depth stop remotes which apparently ran off a smaller hydraulic pump ; and (2) the engine is cold natured and takes some time to start when the temperature is below 40 degrees - it has the older indirect injection system . I now use the tractor mainly as a loader tractor and run the loader off a separate pto hydraulic pump . I have used it to pull a hay trailer with as many as 12 round bales on it - like I said it pulls really well . But if I had an option I would try to find a 1655 which is basically the same frame as the 1555 but has a 70 hp engine and the hydraulics seems stronger as well . A friend of mine has a 1655 and it is a lot more tractor than my 1555 . My opinion anyway .

Gas = 283 ci. Diesel = 310 ci. Both are rated at 87 hp and weigh about 8,800 lb without the loader and ballasted tires. These can easily add 3,000 lb.

Some folks have had problems with the diesel. The gas engine is as reliable as an anvil. You can't hurt it.

If it's been well-maintained, it's a perfect tractor for your intended use.

I'll let others guide you on price. If it were me, and it's a well-maintained tractor, I'd buy it at almost any price. In any event let us know what it does sell for. Believe me, it will sell.

Thanks for the info Ollie,
I have been targeting tractors at retirement auctions only. I have an AC170, JD4020, and the 1755 to consider. What is your opinion on the best tractor of the 3. All are in good shape. The JD is diesel the AC and the Oliver are gas, all have loaders on them.
My uses are mainly snow removal and bucket work around the place.
Thanks for any help. I like being informed.

I wish I could be more objective but I'll be the first to admit I'm an Oliver fan and have never owned the others.

Maybe someone who has can be more helpful!

I would caution you about a diesel if winters are very cold. You might be able to get it started and you might not. My Oliver 1650 gas tractor starts at -30F... pull the choke, turn the key, plow snow... just like that.

That is what I am thinking. Out here in Western Minnesota it blows and drifts. I want something that will start so that I can keep 1/2 mile open. I have to say that 1755 has the look to do the job. I was surprised it runs that much HP but like I said I am trying to learn and be an informed bidder when it comes time to buy.
I figured you to be slightly biased but thats ok. I admire a man that rides for the brand.
Thanks Ollie

Hey Rick, you decide to give up on the AC 170 or just exploring you options? I'll get slammed on this board for this but being a proud Oliver owner I'll take my lumps. If you want something for barnyard type work you will be much happier with a 'good' 170/175 allis. Hydraulics are MUCH stronger on the allis. Our 175 will outperform our 2840 Deere on Hyds. Dont get me wrong, I think the Oliver is the best overall tractor, have yet to drive a tractor that handles better. We have had a S88, 880,1650, and a 1855 and now a 2840 deere in the life span of the 175. If doing work around the barn, the 175 always got jumped on, if I was going to sit on a tractor all day, the 1650 or 1855 would be my first choice, you just cant beat'em. The front end on the 170/175 will also take alot more abuse than the ollies ( at least the ones with the rowcrop wide front ). Good luck on your choices.

I am keeping my options open and learning from you guy's all I can. The tractors I am asking questions about are tractors coming up on auction in my area. I have a great deal on a AC 190 XT with a two way loader. The tractor is a diesel and it smokes even after its warm and working. The guy says it has always done it. It has maybe a 1000 hours on an overhaul. For the price I can'y hardly not buy it. There is a JD 4020 with a loader coming up this weekend. I am sure it will be out of my price range.
