Changed oil in my 1655 D friday. Picked up a new filter at NAPA.Old filter was 3 9/16" new one is about 3 1/16". They ordered more and they were the same. Looked at one at local AGCO dealer same thing. Local Car Qwest had one on hand that was the large one they ordered 6 for me. This AM picked them up they are the small one's.They are also shorter in height. The real problem is they will not fit tight enough in the canister to properly filter the oil. Don't know quite what to do. Either a block between filter and base or something on top of filter to hold it down. Did the 2-70 use screw on filter? May be it could change over. GGGGrrrr Gene

Carquest and NAPA filters are both made by WIX. At Carquest, which is where I get my filters, they list at least 2 different filters, both sock type for my 1655. You need to tell them you want the long one. It will seem like it is too long when you put it on but it is made like that so you get the tight seal that you are looking for. Try Carquest #85842. That is the one that works on my 1655. :) Jeff

I have converted both of my 1655 diesels to a spin on filter. The first I bought a new 2-70 filter base assembly and the second I bought a used filter base off of a gas engine, don't know what it was. That one needed a different nipple in the center to screw the filter to. I have been using Fleetguard filters (Cummins).

It is possible to swap bases with a 2-70 White. The 2-70 uses a spin on filter. I believe the spin on filter is slightly more expensive. You will appreciate the convenience though.

I dont know what you are measuring. On a 2-70 the gasket is 2 7/8 out side.

I am getting my filters from WIX, they come with an assortment of gaskets. They fit fine. There is a spring inside the cansiter, part of the canister, to hold the filter down. By the way the filter is a sock type which means the outside looks like a sock.

If you have the time you might want to sit down at the parts counter at your AGCO dealer with his parts book. The 1650 gas and diesel engines appear to have a very similar adapter plate upon which the filter base mounts. If true, you might be able to buy all the parts to convert to a spin-on filter right across the counter.

I think thats what I'll do. I don't think any body realizes what is going on, the industry made the filters smaller to curb costs. But with the smaller diameter& length the filter is literally floating inside the cannister and not filtering the oil at all. Not what I want in either of mine. Wonder if 2/70 gas & diesel take the same filter? Chore time. Light mist & cooler. Gene
