Isabel is on the way!!!! Dont think she will blow the Olivers away but Im not taking any chances. We are tieing up the barn doors and boltin down anything that will fly away. Looks like we are gonna get this one right on the kisser.... Got almost all the machines in under roof somewhere and moved all the animals in closer to the barns.

I just hope the high winds dont put all the corn on the ground, we are about 2 weeks from chopping and that would really suck to have all the corn go down.

Looks like she is supposed to cross the mountains and be here tomorrow about 5pm. We got a lot of work to do this evening and I am leaving work early to get back to the farm and keep battening down, so I will talk to all you guys after the storm.

Anyone whos in the path Hang on!!!!

Good luck!!!, and remember, if the good lord gives you lemons...make lemonade! I hope you and yours get a good ride.

I have to hand it to you coast people; I always wanted to move to somewhare more exotic, but hurricanes from Texas to New York, and the west coast always jiggling like a bowl of jello, I think I'll spend what's left of my life here in northern IL., put up with the lousy winters and take my chances with a tornado every now and then!

Hey Shep
Tie off those buildings to some of your Big Olivers, they'll be fine. The stock is on their own. Hang on! Check in on the other side.

Hope you and yours come through it without incident. Glad you have corn to worry about. We have had exactly 1.25" of rain since June 1 and most of the corn isn't even worth cutting. Much of the midwest had an unusual drought this summer. In fact, the feed mill says the price is about ready to go through the roof.

Any chance you can steer Isable to Wisconsin and Minnesota?

Where are you at? Up in NE WI we got rain last weekend, just in time to wet the ground again. crop adjuster said our corn was the best he's seen all year, cobs bigger than your fist, almost 1' long, and taller than my 1755's muffler in 1 or 2 feilds.

Most of WI 50 mi west of Lake Michigan and most of MN have had the worst drought in recent memory. Even the weeds dried up and died. Some farmers in the Wausau area with large corn fields and deep pockets are spray irrigating corn; something rarely done there.

Well, I'm right between Greenbay and Appleton, and overall our whole area has pretty good crops. Guess we just got lucky and got rain when we needed it for the mostpart. I know that if I travel too far from my nice little pocket, farmers are struggling, but in our area is the best harvest in a couple of years.

Thanks Ollie,

We have been in a swamp most of the summer, getting about an inch a week most of the time. Lot of our early corn flooded out, then the snails got some of it. What did come up now looks really good, but we havent got it in the silos yet. Our hay has been rained on all summer, and if you didnt wet wrap it, it just didnt get dry. We have tracked up fields and gotten tractors stuck all summer, I am sick of pulling tractors out of the mud this year. Our ground is saturated pretty good now, and here comes the hurricane. If we get hit like we are supposed to it will be huge flooding around here. There is just no where for the water to go anymore. Weather guessers are calling for 6 to 10 inches of rain tomorrow night and 30 to 40 MPH winds into and most of the day friday.

Main thing I am worred about is power failure. I really hate running generators all night. The two generators are PTO tractor powered so two of the Ollies will have to be out in the storm cranking out the power if it fails. I am going to try to get the generators hooked up tonight and ready to roll at a moments notice should we have a failure.

Well, Im running out to the farm, thanks for the thoughts, Im sure we will be fine, we have had plenty of time to prepare for this one. Just have to hold on and ride this one out.

Later guys

Shep when you get all that rain it comes down to us on the neck and raises the rivers. We're supposed to get 4-5 inches and with that much that quick the ground just moves. I hope'n there is enough roots left to hold the ground steady and not make more gullies. Also hope'n there is only 40 mph of wind--the corn might just stand up to that. Probably lay down some though.
One of my buildings has an open side and I think she'll stand 40 mph wind but not 70-80. Found out insurance doesn't cover wind damage without a "closed" building. Doors count, so guess I'll be installing doors for next time.
