I need to replae quite a few track pad bolts on my Cletrac BD crawler. It is equipped with street pads. They are like a heavy duty 5/8 inch carriage bolt with the square part going into a 5/8 inch square hole in the pad. However the shank and threads of these bolts are only 9/16 inch. The bolts are about 2.5 inches in length. Track pads are loose and I cannot tighten them up. Anybody have any of theese? Zimmermans do not have any, and they were not sure where to find them. Someone somewhere must have a whole pile of them. Any ideas?

Try Fastenal Co., they have stores in most cities, and can order special fasteners. My data gives 9/16" 18 tpi x 2 3/8". I am fairly certain this is for a later tractor, not yours. If you have 2 carriage bolts holding the grouser to the track link, this will not be correct, this is 4 bolt data. If so, your track was made prior to the mid 1946 change. You should measure the bolt, pay attention to the thread pitch, it is probably a fine pitch, hardened bolt. Contact Fastenal, they might be able to order some for you, or you might have to just use standard carriage bolts.

I have tried Fastenall. They only supply standard run of the mill bolts. These are not as they have a 9/16 thread., but a larger than normal square part to keep it from turning.

If you don't find that box of them hid away in some warehouse... take the best bolt you have to a machine shop. Have them make you a prototype duplicate. Try it out for fit. Then have the shop make all you need. It won't be cheap but small-run job shops do this all time.
