I am not too familiar with Oliver hydraulics and I am looking at a 66 w/hydraulics. It's got the 2 levers on the hydraulic unit and also the two switches on the steering column. I assume the switches control the solenoids in the cylinders, but what do the levers do? Does the pump supply pressure to the inlet side of the cylinders constantly, and when the solenoids activate, hyd pressure is allowed in and out of cylinders?
Thanks

The levers on the column are the original controls for the hydralectric system. They controlled the hydraulic unit valves electrically, causing the cylinders to extend or contract. The cylinders had electric switches on them to turn off the valves when the cylinder reached the full extended position, or the retracted position down to a stop collar. The levers could also be used in a manual configuration to cause the cylinder to move only while holding the level. The levers you refer to on the hydraulic unit could be two different units. If they are attached to stub shafts coming out of the side of the unit, then they are manual levers added to be able to actuate the hydraulic valves manualy instead of electrically. If the levers come out of the top of the case, then the tractor has been retrofitted with a type 3 unit that did not use the levers on the column.

Terry, thanks for all the info. The levers are on each side of the hydraulic unit on the stub shafts. Does it sound like this tractor has it's original setup?
Thanks

Terry has done a good job of explaining the set up. You have or are asking about what is know as a group 2 hydraulic unit. The group one units did not have the handles or a filter. Another thing the 66 came with 2-1/2 inch cylinders and the 77 & 88's came with a 3 inch cylinder.. It makes no differencenow, this is all 50 years later. One of the complaints of the group one hydraulic units was the lack of handles for back up. The handles may be handier to use for non hydra-lectric cylinders. That is operator preference. Remember the hydra-lectric was an option. If you do buy it, change the oil and the filter.66's are neat trouble free tractors
