Roy,

Here's a couple places to try. Finding a "good" used one and how long it will be good for, is the big problem. Prices will be subject to supply and demand on these Saginaw motors. They don't make them anymore. If your doing a authentic restoration, fixing it up to sell or don't plan on keeping the 1600 long, I'd go with the Saginaw replacement. If your planning on keeping and working it, I'd go for the Char-Lynn conversion as Jim H suggested. I've done a Char-Lynn conversion myself and if I can do it anybody can. ":^)

Also here is a listing of salvage yards.

I'd also be interested in your old motor if you have no further use for it. HTH

I seem to remember you took some photos and you are very articulate; I'm sure an article about the conversion in the HPOCA magazine would be very helpful to others. Any chance we can twist your arm?

Thanks for the compliment Ollie. I'm not sure how much demand for such an article would be as I can't recall the subject ever coming up over at the HPOCA forum. That and you have not seen the under hood pictures. Kind of looks like The Bride of Frankenstein under there, with all the adapters. I do feel that I accomplished my goal of creating a Char-Lynn conversion, preserving the tilt and telescope features, that can easily be returned to Saginaw should the need ever arise.

I think Larry from MD would be a better choice as he has done several Char-Lynn conversions. Maybe we can twist his arm. How 'bout it Larry?

Hey I can bearly type.I can add that at first years ago we tried a rebuilt one and i tried to do a late model one myself.Niether lasted any time at all,one 2 months and one 6 months. When i did the first conversion i felt it had to be done cheap. My father had died and i was trying to get a crop in and pay the taxes. The steering was improved by speed and less effort to turn.So when the other 2 Quit I went with conversions. The kit from agco or somewhere else is faster and easyer espically if you don't have a welder and a shop to make stuff.the last one i used parts from the junked massey combine(series 2 valve).

Maybe Kim could put all the posts about this together in one of the sections on the left.

I just finished converting my 1800 to a Char-Lyn hydramotor. I suspect that the 1600 probably could use the same. I paid $325 at Bridgeport Tractor Parts in Nebraska. 1-877-530-5010. Good luck. That's a formidible operation. Be sure to get the hoses at the same place so you don't have to have them special made ($85) like I did.
