Got the fuel leak fixed and figured I would give it a road test..... This thing pulls like an army mule! I think it would drag my 4020 JD around backwards..... That brings me to my first question.... Whats the HP rating on this? (310 Waukesha) PTO HP? It did not come w/ a manual so I am lost as to any special needs for oils.... Are there any? Is the 'Hydraul shift' using plain old ATF? Anything non-standard about the hydraulic oil? I use a deere specified oil in the 4020... Any reason it wouldnt work in the Oliver for hydraulics? 90 wt in the rear end? Could someone point me in the right direction to order a reprint of the manual for this tractor? I am sure I have more questions but will post them as I think of them.... Thanks in advance, Paul

Un-updated over/unders take the ATF as said. If you ever need to install input or output shafts you have to use the new style clutch pack pieces like in late 2-105's (different spline count, and glue for friction material) then you would use a prouduct such as the JD Hy-Guard you probably use in your 4020. True Type 55 is on a lighter base stock than the "universal" oils be carefull we had several customers junk their pump using "el cheapo" oil that wouldn't flow through the filter properly.

I have a 1955. Is Havoline (or Shell) TD a good oil to use in my hydrolic system?

Sorry about late post I've not been able to get to my computer for a cuople of days. I'm not real familiar with those products. What I'm using is New Holland F200A it's something that they came out with to help flow in low temps and is as thin as the Type 55 was, but can still take the heat and friction. I think the TD is equal to the New Holland 134. I've got to keep something pretty universal as I've almost got a rainbow of tractors. I've got the red, orange, yelow, both greens, and the blue, now I just need the indigo and violet!

You're right Paul; an 1855 will pull a 4020 around the yard backwards! You can sure humble a 4020 fast with this tractor, something I love doing every chance I get. Get the manuals from the site here or from the Floyd County Historical Society in Charles City, IA; they're a very valuable resource. 1855 was rated at 98 pto hp at 2400 rpm. They are capable of more, and yours may have it. The Over/Under specified oil is Type A ATF, which cross references to today's Dexron/Mercon. Hydraulic oil is Oliver/White Farm Type 55, which should be listed on the back label of whatever you buy. AGCO still sells it.

WFE I was REALLY impressed when I ran it over to the other farm..... There is a swale I have to go through and if I use the 4020 I have to use the foot feed to overide the governor or I will not make it to the top in road gear..... The 1855 cruised up the slope at 17 mph in 6th high with barely a bit of smoke out the pipe.... This is gonna be nice! I kinda figured the hi/low was atf since it is red in color but thanks for the specifics on the box and the hydraulics. As for the manuals I cant be to far from Charles City, it kinda sounds familiar and Iowa is a pretty small state; If they dont have them I will use the site here..... Thanks again for all the help from everybody and I'm sure you will be hearing from me again.... Paul

I have an 1855. the manuls will provide ranges for oil. Her in Virginia I use a good Diesel motor oil--15-40 weight. 90 weight in the rear. Interestingly the 1855 has ATF in the over/under and the 1655 has hydualic oil. Both tractors work fine. I would suggest, however, that you not change from what ever is in it now. That will create problems.
