About a month ago i posted some questions on an 1850..... Well, it looks like I may pass on that one since it is pretty rough. I have found an 1855 that looks to be a pretty good machine. Same questions I guess, Any weak points I need to look into before I lay out the green? Is that the Perkins 354? Horsepower? The hydra power says something to the effect of 'low, direct and over'. Good system? What is the average fuel consumption on one of these? 5GPH? Probably some pretty basic questions but I have never owned an Oliver before so thanks in advance for your answers. Also what would a fair price be for this tractor, paint looks decent and tires are servicable but would need replaced before doing any heavy tillage. I plan on using this mostly for haying so the tires will be just fine for my intended usage. Thanks, Paul

Well, I have spoken with the owner and he says it is turboed so I suppose that points to the 310 Waukesha. Original paint looks good for its age as the tractor has been shedded regularly. Duals come with it at about 30% tread life. No cab. Said they had just done about $600 worth of repairs to the PTO, are there problems lurking in there I should know about? A bit under 4000 hours. Does $4200 sound fair? Thanks, Paul

WFE, All I can so is wow..... Looks like the Waukesha 310 has a bit of a blur in its history.
Are all the 310's in 1855's turbo assisted? I will venture to say that as hard as this tractor will ever work (if I buy it) would be pulling a 4-16 Oliver plow or planting w/ a 12 row planter. I just dont do much heavy tillage other than that. I guess I will look very closely for block repairs..... thanks, Paul

1855 is one nice tractor. It sounds like it has the Over/Under, which is a 3 speed powershift, instead of the two provided with the Hydra-Power. Over/Unders are good, reliable units, no weak points. Admittedly, the biggest weak point of the 1855 WAS, not necessarily IS, the engine. Assuming it's a diesel, look back at the archives on this site and type in 310. There you'll read what the initial problems were with this engine, and how they can be overcome if you plan to work this engine hard. If you're only using it for haying, then you probably needn't worry as much, although new rod bearings and new rod bolts (that you can read about in the archives) are a good idea, unless you have proof this has already been done. Hydraulic pumps can occasionally be an item that are replaced on these as well.
