Just bought a farm in an estate sale that had some old equipment in the sheds that the seller said "came with the place" In addition to several tractors and other implements there are two old Oliver combines one is a 545 with a cab, has a 4 row corn head, and a 14' grain head. The other is a 525 with that has a 12' grain head and a 2 row corn head. They have been kept in an enclosed Morton building and are in very good shape. The 545 looks almost brand new and has a white cab, the 525 appears to have seen more use, and has a white cab with a green cab roof. Can anyone tell me approximately what years these machines were made, and if they are worth anything? The owner was almost 100 years old, and had not farmed since the mid 70s. They probably have not been run since he parked them. I have been told that there was a big oliver dealer around here that closed up shop in 1980 but there are no others in the area. Anyone know if you can still get parts for them?

I was just wandering if any one could tell me the weight of a 525 oliver combine with a 12' grain head and a 2 row corn head. Or maybe someone could give me a number to a dealer who might would have some information on the combine.

The model 525 was built from 1964 to 1970 535 Was built from 1965 to 1970 545 was built from 1965 to 1970

Cockshutt model designations were the same.

Minneapolis Moline: Oliver 525 is MM 2890 Oliver 535 is MM 3496 Oliver 545 is MM 4296
MM machines has some differences in sheet meatal from Oliver / Cockshutt.

Above production years are for Grain Machines.

The 545 and 525 Oliver would be the same as the Cockshutt combines of that number. I believe they were introduced in the early 60s and built into the 70s. There was a 542 also which was a size in between those two mentioned. The 542 was kept in production longer than the other two models and it was just re-numbered 5542. It seems to me that Minneapolis sold the same machine under the number 4292 painted Mini yellow.

Steve,
Since you asked I believe they started making the 525,535,545 series in 1964 and it appears that they had quit making them by 1972.

As stated the 7300 was an updated 535 and is the only part of that line that survived.

The 8600,8800 and 8700,8900 were distinctly different machines.

My Father had a 1963, 63 (last year) after owning a 1952 33. I remember the first year of the 500 series from that 63.

I have no ideal what I was thinking when I wrote that but I had brain fade for sure.

The 63 I referred to was in fact a 25.

This late post is for someone whom might be looking at old posts.

Remember that White/Oliver bought Cockshut mostly for its superior Combine line. I'm not sure but I believe the models mentioned here were continued on with the White line thru the late 70's painted red with an extra digit in the model#. They didn't get much advertizing maybe 1/2 page versus the 2-3 page spreads the 7000 and 8000 series units got. Most of these units I've see have been in PA and NY on small/midsize farms.

That could be but I was never aware of this. I am in Illinois.
These older machines had better walkers in them for separating than the newer ones mostly flat walkers. Just a thought.

7300's were updated 535's. And somebody parting out well prserved examples is the shame of the old machinery collecting hobby. Everybody saves tractors, a lot save some tillage, but nobody seem to be preserving the other items that were the finest in farm machinery too! Once this stuff is gone it's gone. And I'll echo the others in asking where you're at, although I'll bet it's a feeding frenzy.

Doesn't seem to be much of a market for "collector combines"- too big to haul to shows, and aside from the 10 acre oat guy, what's anyone going to do with them? I've seen a couple of Cockshutt combines in Canada "free to good home" recently.

Mike,

Where did you see the free combines to a good home notice. That sounds like it could be in my price range.

guessing late 60's as we have a 7300 Oliver that is like a '72 or so

parts could probably be had at a salvage yard or someplace -

not a lot of value in my opinion....

Depends on where they are. How many hours on on the hr meters? I see a few of these around and a few (very few) of the "White" that were the same but painted red. The best market would be if someone has one of them they use and needs parts or if they are in better shape than what they have. Otherwise I see those types of things have more $$ if you pull the engine and sell it separate (get them running 1st) and part out the rest (like in the classifieds) or scrap. You may want to look online at the AGCO web site for one of their dealers. They bought and dismanted what little was left of White/Oliver. I know the local dealer here (N central IN) can get tractor parts. What are the tractors and implements??? where are you located?
