It has been a very long time 20 years since I have operated any tractor and never an Oliver so I don't feel too embarassed by asking this question. What are the three key positions? I know the middle or horizontal is off, the key is removable. Up to the right is ignition on, right? No idea what down to the left is.

Do I need to use the light switch to have the generator charge the battery? The lights don't work and the wires are all stripped so I figure it will cause a short to turn the switch on.

I have the key switch and the light switch but there is another hole where a switch used to be, what was it?

Most likely your missing switch is a hole about 1 inch in diameter with a little hole on each side like to attach it with two small bolts. if so that is where the switch for a preheater for a diesel goes.

What model is it? These positions(up-right, down left) don't sound familiar to me. We own a 1600 and a 1755, and they have the same positions. turn to the left is acc, striaght up & down in off, right is ignition/ electrical systems on, turn all the way to the right starts the engine. I don't know of any other switch other than the lights and ign.

Sorry about that it is a Super 55. It doesn't start with the key it has a mechanical foot pedal to activate the starter. The key is off at horizontal compared to your vertical so I will assume until I get the manual that left is Accessories for which there aren't any but lights, and right is ignition which is how I have been using it. Thanks for the info. The light switch is either on or off so I assume that it isn't a rheostat for charging.

I think you need an operating manual.
