Help! Oliver 1950T purchase

I'm about to take the plunge and purchase
my first tractor, an Oliver 1950T. The
asking price is $4,500.00. The tractor comes
with a cab.

Would anyone like to recommend a list of
things I should look out for? Any thoughts
on hiring someone to examine the vehicle
first? Would you do a compression test?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would do the things mentioned below. Also get a flash light and check the block. The one that we bought had a big hole that was welded shut and we did not look for it and it was on the side near the bottom, below the frame. Having read other post there were some bad bolts put in the mains and they would blow a hole in the side. Wish that we would have checked. We got a new engine for it and it is a sweet tractor. Ours does very well at the pulls and my brother in law's 2-105 is out pulled by it every year.

What are you talking about? Olivers are the best tractor ever built, and NOTHING EVER goes wrong with them. Thats why they went out of buisness.

I think the 1950T has a sock type filter. If so, pull the filter off and check for brass pieces on the filter. If there is a lot, the bearings may need to be replaced in the engine. This is not an extremely difficult job but it would cost up to $500. The other thing you can do is to check the oil pressure. It should have at least 30 to 35 psi. Other than that, just run it and check for any unusual noises. It is true that you could get a 1855 or 1955 for approximately 5,000 to 5,500 but it still depends on the shape.

$4,500 is in the ballpark. Watch for oil out the breather and water in the oil. We have one and it has been a real good tractor. They have real good power run cheap, cool and are a pleasure to drive. We use ours on the 12 row 30" cultivators, tillage and yard and loader duties handles every thing I throw at it 500+ hrs a year. It has been overhouled once and some 3 pt work done to it recently. Good luck.

$4500 for 1950T sounds like plenty unless in very good shape. You should be able to get 1855 or 1955 in this range. Would have closed center hydraulics and later 3spd
