NEED ADVICE! I have recieved some real good info here at this discussion forum, in the past, concerning my Oliver/Cockshutt #356 mower.Got her mobile, up & running, however I am experiencing cut hay sticking & clogging at the very outer end of the cutter bar & blade. The clog seems to start at the last section of the cutter bar where it slides over the ledger plate .. The ledger plates & sections on the cutter bar are not as sharp as new, but they are not dull & I have seen my father's old mower cut successfully with the cutting edges worn a lot more than what I have here. Could it be possible the pitman shaft is not the right length & the cutter bar sections & finger ledger plates are out of time.?? If some one could check the timing procedure in your manual, & pass it on to me , I would be grateful., since I don't have a manual.. Also wanted to thank Mr. Star for his forwarded pics.. They were a great help. Brian Bowser

I don't have the procedure spelled out in the manual, but I believe proper time or being in "register" some books call it, is when the tip of a section is lined up with the tip of the guard at the peak of the backstroke; then lined up with the next guard tip out at the end of the forward stroke.
With your problem being at the end of the bar, the grass could be hanging up on a bolt, burr, or rivet somewhere. A grassboard can help, too.

Brian,
You can find manuals at the Floyd County Historical Society. Most implement manuals are $10 each that I have bought. I would highly suggest getting a parts and ops. manuals.
