550 diesel

hey all,

I have an oliver 550 diesel back hoe and loader.Oil was blowing out of the valve cover overflow.I was told that I either have something pluged or bad rings.Well it turns out one of the pistons is shot.between where the rings are on the piston is falling apart.A rebuilt kit is way more than I could ever possibly afford,and was wondering if anyone knows of another motor that could possibly go in there.Something more modern perhaps,something that does not rake me so much everytime I need to buy something for it.This thing is really starting to kill me,I just use it at home for doing jobs around the house.

For the work you want to do, you won't find a better tractor than a 550. spening a few $$ on her now should last a lifetime.

Have you considered buying a single piston and ring set and repairing one cylinder? I don't think that would cost too much.

I DONT FULLY AGREE WITH MARK IF YOU HAVE ONE BROKE YOU WANT TO LOOK AT THE OTHERS MABY A 550 OR 66/660 GAS ENGINE WILL FIT TRY A SALVAGE YARD TOO FOR PARTS
