1855 brakes smell

I put new disks in my 1855. When I did, I found the ram on the left piston had broken off, so I had to get a used one.

I bottomed the disk then backed it out one turn. That was too tight. I backed it out a half a turn on both sides. The left side seemed still tight. I backed them both off another half turn. They seem to run freely, the brake housing does not get warm, but I still feel like I smell a little disk friction.

These brakes do not have the zerks on them that my 2255 has. Does this mean they are early in the 1855 series, or did the 1855 never have the zerks on the brake linkage?

What suggestions do you have on getting the brake job done right?

The insulator plate may have fallen down when you put the brake cylinder assembly on the brake housing. Use do0uble asided tape to hld it in place during assembly.
