Lost low range on 2255 trany

My dad lost 4th gear while running the subsoiler on our 2wd 2255. In checking it out, it looks like we lost the entire low range. I can shift into each gear, but get a grinding noise and very little tractor movement. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I am trying to gauge the repair effort (time and $) versus trying to find a used 2255 for parts. Thanks in advance.

Also your fork could have broke too. Just had that happen to my 1855. Was in low rnge and it would not shift in to hig. But , still could get into all the gears in the high side. Still waiting toi get a chance to try to get it moveing again.

If the shifter feels like it is wobbling.Then,the shift collar that engages the gear teeth for the low range gear on the input shaft of the transmission have worn down and the actual gear teeth will wear.And strip.Usually more on the gear side. I have ran into this on one of my 2255's that had light weight hydraulic oil put into the rearend instead of 90 weight.The oil would heat up and the gears would keep enough momentum that it would take longer than it should to stop with the clutch pushed in.Put in a used low range gear and collar Refilled gear oil.Stops the same as my other 2255's. If memory serves me right those same gears are also used in the 1955's I would have to check my parts book.
