Is there a retrofit which will remove the distributor from the 310 Waukesha? If so, I'd appreciate any information.

You can also go directly to Pertronix.

The upgrade is easy and the installation drawings are included. I bought one for my Super 55 and it started right away. I already had it converted to a 12V negative gnd with an alternator. I paid 75$ for the ignitor. Pertronix has vemdors all over the place. Check their web site they also have an online catalog.

Genesee will make one for me, but it won't have a tach drive. I'm not crazy about that. What can I do about the tach question if not from the distributor?

www.datcon.com makes an electronic tach and also a tach/hourmeter that connect to the negative terminal of the ignition coil. It fits in the same place as your current tach.

I looked into this "kit" for my 1650. They want $200 for it. No thanks. I can buy enough points and condensors to last 10-20 years for $200.

Pertronix or anybody else could charge $2000 for their electronic ignition kits, and it would still be a bargain! Go ahead, be cheap. Fool with points that were outdated when the tractor, car, truck, or whatever was built. No thanks. Regards.....P

I've been "fooling with points" since the '50s. I buy quality parts, install them correctly, and inspect and replace them when necessary, which is every 4-5 years.

It's not about saving money. It's about not pissing it away on something that is not cost-effective.

The reference to the conversion was to show the ease of conversion. My self I would rather the thing ran fine for 10 yrs instead of waiting till it quit in the field.
