I'm experiencing icing of the carb which shows up as white frost on the flange that bolts to the intake ,about an inch each way from the flange. The tractor will only stay running with the choke half wayor more on.I've tried HEET to no avail.I have a sediment bowl on the outlet of the gas tank, but I don't have an in line filter.Would this help?

I have a 1600 Industrial (gas) - it's plagued with the same carb icing problem you describe. Seems worst in damp weather when the temperature is 35 - 45 deg or so. Here's a few things I've found which help:

1 - Make sure the carburetor is properly adjusted for warm, dry weather operation - especially the idle mixture adj.

2 - Before using the tractor, start it and run at fast idle (1,200 RPM) for 5 minutes or, or until the carb is nicely frosted outside. Now shut it off and wait about 5 minutes until heat soaks from the exhaust manifold and melts the frost. (If there's any breeze, position the tractor so the manifold side is out of the wind.) After the frost is gone, tractor should start/run fine.

3 - Until the engine is fully warmed up, run the tractor in a lower gear/higher RPM than normal - especially if you're working a light load.

4 - Use fresh gas! (Not gas that's been sitting around for 6 months...) I've found a bottle or two of dry gas in each tank of gas helps too.

Hey now this is the kind of answer we need. Good Job. Now if you guys can figure out how to get some from the exhaust manifold to the carb he could get the problem fixed.

You need to get some heat to it from the exhaust manifold.

If mm is going to offer coments with no viable solution, why doesn't he keep his nose under his own hood?
