Thanks for everyones help, from what it's looking like this OLIVER I've bought is turning out to be a 55 series . I think that the info. I got from everyone is proof enough for me that this OLIVER is a 55 series; The casting # on the front frame section 1E-500A lead to a 55 , the draw bar hooks to the bottom side of the axle housing and has the horse shoe pattern where it mounts to the housing and the shifter is on the left hand side under the seat, remember, I don't have a serial # plate, Does anyone agree with this conclusion and is a 55 and a S-55 the same thing? Also ,is their away to determine the year? Thanks for the help, Scotty

There should be a date stamped in the rear of the block which will get you close if the block is original. You will have to take 2 3/8 in. bolts out that hold a bracket in front to of the battery tray and clean up the machined surface and you should be able to make it out.

Gary, Thanks for the help,I have the fuel tank off and I see the Battery Tray has 6 3/8 Bolts that hold down the tray,are the numbers going to be under the tray toward the front and Are they casting numbers or are they stamped? Thanks for all the help, Scotty

Scotty did you try looking for a serial number stamped on the engine block. I don't know about the 55's but my 1953 77 has a serial number stamped at the right rear of the engine block just below the timing hole cover. The number is stamped vertically right where the block attaches to the clutch housing. Once you know the block serial number someone can probably tell you the year.

Thanks for the help, I found some casting numbers on the left side rear of the block but I couldn't find any numbers on the right rear side of the block, the numbers I found are 180220E then under that 1L100B and these numbers are horizonial I'll keep looking though,Thanks for your help Scotty

Sounds like a Super 55 to me. There were no plain 55's, just Super 55's. That model did not exist until introduced while the Super series where replacing the two digit series, (66, 77, etc.) Also, I just stopped and looked at a 550 for sale alongside the road and it had the shifter on the left side. It had a full hydraulic loader with a front mounted pump and no auxillary hydraulics.
