My 2255 PTO will disengage during field work. Look back and nothing is turning, lever is back in "off" position. Any way to reset it so the PTO stays engaged? Right now, I wrap a wire around it and the 3 pt lever and that works fine but of course that's not the way it was designed.

Check your pressure at the bottom line which should be the pressure line. Not the short one going to the reservoir. T into the pressure line and see how much the pressure drops while pressing the brakes with the PTO running. It should not drop below 180psi and a max of 210. If it falls below 180 the pto will disengage. You could have a bad O ring in the flow contol valve which has three valve in one body. The spring on the pressure reducing valve got a little weak on our 2-150 and did the same thing. It would not hurt to disassemble the valve completely and check it out. It is not very complicated and can be done while on the tractor.

As Shep said if you hit the brakes and the pto disengages the priorty valve is sticking.

Had this happen to my 1855 once and it might be the same problem, but it could be several things.

In the back on the PTO control unit there should be a cap on top of the unit. If you take that cap off there is a linkage rod that connects the PTO linkage to the rod that runs through the top of the unit. There is a roll pin in there that if it gets worn or slides out will cause the PTO to have play in the linkage and cause it to come out of gear. Someone had put a nail in mine, guess the roll pin broke and it was allowing it to inch back out of gear.

The other possibility if all your linkages are tight and you dont find any problem with the PTO unit is that you have either some pressure problems or PTO unit problems. The PTO and the breaks work on low pressure off the hydraulic pump and the PTO will normally knock off when you hit the breaks if you are having hydraulic problems.
