I'm looking at a mid 60's four wheel drive Oliver (big help, I can't remember the number) with a 105 HP Perkins six, front wheel drive and a newer JD loader. All new tires, cab. It was used as a power unit with low hrs. on drive train. The Perkins was just rebuilt. Good over all condition. Ideas on price range. How do they hold up? Parts? Thanks for any input, PK.

That was it, 1850 Oliver. I got it home now and it runs great. Put it to work last night. I'm impressed with the throttle response and HP. The only low point is the hydraulics to the loader. Slow response unless running higher RPMs. I would think a 25 gpm pump would be quicker. Any ideas? Thanks PK.

Glad you like your new Oliver!

I have a 1650, essentially the same pump, and my loader works perfectly even at idle. Possible causes of slow response are low hydraulic fluid level, water contaminated fluid, clogged filter, leak, etc. A worn pump will have the same effect.

In addition to what Ollie said, If the loader hydraulic supply is plumbed into the remotes you may want to re-plumb it into the power-beyond port. Much better flow through the power-beyond.

It's not plumbed into the remotes, they used a port on the front left of the body, under the seat. Is this the power beyond port? If not where might it be? The fluid level is good with all new filters. Thanks for all the help, PK.

Yes, that should be the power-beyond. You might check with Deere and see what the gpm and psi requirements are for the loader. The 1850 manual says the, hydraulic pump's, pressure relief valve is set at 2050 psi and flow is 16.1 gpm at 2400 rpm. Also the 1850 is an open center system. As this is a Deere loader it may have a closed center control valve(s).

I saw a 1968 1950T that came out with a vane type pump. It only worked when the motor was wound up. It was cured by replacement. $400 pump 20 years ago. Now??

They managed to put that "other" green on that poor Oliver?? Must be killing it to be wearing those wrong shades of green. I didn't think Anyone could bring themselves to harm an Oliver in such a way:) If you are sure it's the perkins, It's most likely an 1850 turned up a little bit. Otherwise it could be a 1955, but they had Waukeshaw's in it.

Sounds like you are looking at an 1850 Perkins diesel MFWA. The 1850 was one of Olivers better tractors and they worked well. The MFWA is a clark front end and if it wears out you can put a pile of money into it, but if you keep oil and grease in everything it will run a long time.

A good 2WD 1850 with new tires and an overhaul and a loader will go for $5,000 to $6,000 around here, maybe add another $1,500 to $2,000 for the MFWA, so maybe $7,000 to $8,000 for that tractor if it is in good shape and not tore up, and depending on what the loader is it might go more.
