Oliver What?!

I have a Oliver tractor, that I'm sure of but that's about it. The old guy I got it from said he thought it was made in 1954 but didn't know the model . The serial # plate has been knocked off and lost plus the front sheet metal is lost in the honey suckle patch that the tractor came from so I won't be able to find that until the fall when the honeysuckle dies off so I know nothing about this animal. I think it may be a 550 is there any to tell? Thanks for any help Scotty

Is it tricycle or wide front? What about tire size? From the other responses it sounds like a Super 55, especially when you said the gearshift was on the left side. If it is a 1954 model could not be a 550, they didn't make those until 1958. Hope this might help.

Thanks Max, the tractor has a wide front and the tire sizes I have are Rear 14-26 front 6.00-16 the gear shift is on the left side under the seat, that I'm sure of.I was told it was a 1954 but I'm not sure what year it is.Thanks for your time and help, Scotty

If it's a 550 there will be 4 holes under the bull gear area to mount a brk for the drawbar. The 55's had a horseshoe shaped brk. which bolts on with the axle housing bolts except for a few of the last ones had the 550 brks.

Gary, Thanks for ALL the help. I have the horse shoe shaped bracket that bolts on the axle houseings for sure and the casting # I gave you 1E-500A came off the front frame section for sure, so it's looking more like a 55 all the time.Sounds like you are the OLIVER man for sure..Thanks for all your time and help, Scotty

Gary, Thanks for the info. I'm home now for lunch as soon as I get home tonight I will check it out and let you know what I find.I work at a John Deere dealer ship but I'm being treated like a red headed step-chid because I bought this Oliver,I keep telling them it's still green but they still want to chunk rocks at me, but I like the old tractor, just can't figure out what I got. Yes many of large castings have have dates on the bottem of the tractor.They are aranged like this DAY-MONTH-YEAR.As an example 20-5-59 would be may 20 in 1959.Theres not much differanxe in a S55 and a 550 so find a year and look at some pictures on the left of this page for an id.

Larry, Thanks for the help. The onley numbers I could find on the bottom side of the tractor are on the front frame section 1E 500a the next set of # I found are on the trans. 1E 599a the last set of # I found are worn almost off I can't read but the first 3 # and they are 928 can't read the rest of the # wore off but they are in between 2 drain plugs toward the back of the tractor.I don't know if this will help any but the gear shift is on the left under the seat and I do know it has a American Bosh injection pump.. The tractor has been well presivered in oil, grease and dirt,going to steam clean the tractor soon maybe I'll find some more # Thank you for your time Scotty

The 1E-500-a front frame was used on S-55 from #6503-39921
