the oliver 60 has a separate grease reservoir for the PTO.

i can fill it up, and let it sit, and when i come back some of the grease will have drained down in to the transmission. it isn't empty, but it isn't as full as before.

that may be ok, in fact that's my question. is this what it's supposed to do?? or do i have a seal somewhere that's gone bad??

rwd If memory serves me right the PTO only uses about 1 Quart of oil, there should be a check level plug on the side of the PTO housing to check the proper level of the oil. The check plug is rather low on the housing because of the low level of oil required to lubricate the gears and bearings in the housing. Good Luck Shadetree

Tell me more about the greasing of the pto on the Oliver 60. I bought one last fall. I've used it very little but I was not aware the PTO had to be greased. What kind of grease is used? Where is the access to put it in or is it just a grease nipple. Email me or put it on the bulletin board

rod, mine is a 1948 copy -- the last year of manufacture. assume they're all the same, but don't know.

mine has a filler plug and a drain plug on the PTO housing itself. my owners manual says that what goes in here is the same thing that goes in the tramsmission, i.e. -- the 90-110 weight tramsmission grease.

i also have a single grease fitting up under the seat to grease the internal bearings of the PTO shaft which spin when the engine is running.

when i fill the PTO up with the transmission stuff, i'm sure some stays in there, but it does drain out and in to the transmission to a certain level. it does not go empty. i wish i knew if this was right.
