Oliver 1650 Engine

I've got two Oliver 1650 gas tractors, one with a loader. One of the tractors has a bad engine and I was wondering if anyone has put a diesel engine in one of these tractors? If so, where can I get one and how much modifying will have to be done?

I have a 310 1955 engine in my 1650 you have to use the short water pump & pulleys it fits.

EJ, was the water pump the only mod. needed to intsall a 310 in your 1650?

Bad engine meaning worn rings and bearings or bigger problems? Just my 2 cents, but a 1650 gas for a chore tractor is hard to beat as they will start no matter what. I would guess a 1650 diesel will end up being more money if all you need is an overhaul on the gasser, and take it from experience, the diesel will not start in the winter without being plugged in, ether, or being in a warm shop. Good luck however you go.

Shouldn't be that hard, there really aren't many other components other than what would come on an engine that's complete. Make sure there isn't any gas in the tank as to not contaminate the deisel(and cause problems). The engine should just bolt right in place, as I'm almost positive they used the same block for both, just a few different internals like crank and pistons. Try to get the newer deisel, with direct injection, or if possible step up to maybe a 55 series engine or a 310. (these are very durable engines if built right) If you go to a larger size engine, it might be a little longer, so you may have do do something with the radiator. Over all, a very doable project and won't be a very bad tractor when you're done.
