I have an oliver 0c3-42 with a 1xb-3 engine ( I'am, guessing a hercules engine) I need a distributer cap for what I thought was a plan old distributer. But i was told that fairbanks morse type f.m. is not a distributer but a magneto with pt's and condesers. Now i am confused because I have a coil that goes to this cap and i thought with a magneto you dont need a coil. . Does any one know what i have here. The cap has five wires, one per cylinder and the fith going to the coil. does a mgneto type distributer have a coil with it? thanks in advance

the last time I needed mag parts I called 1800magneto. They had all the parts I needed for an old international, and magnetos is all they do I think.

My '39 hg has a mag which has a distributor type cap clipped to the main mag contact block which in turn is clipped to the mag body.
I would think it quite easy to convert a duff mag to coil operation, as the cap has an infeed for the ht (normally from the mag coil but easily from an external coil) and simply using the mag contacts for coil feed low tension and timing, and the cap & rotor for ht distrubution.
I would think that's what has been done to yours. Presume it has electrics fitted.
