My 1950 is a mix of ind. (yellow) and ag. The engine/hydra power are yellow, as is the rad. and fan/mount ( the rad. neck is too short to fit up through the hood??). The line out of the gear fuel pump goes in front of the radiator to a cooler about 1/3 of the size of the hydraulic cooler, then to the sec. filter??? I have seen many Detroits in different applications and have never seen this before. Also how can I tell if my 4-53 has a two valve head or a four valve head? As most detroits I see the data plates on the valve cover are useless.

My I&T manual states that the 1900 A,B and early C have the 2 valve head. Late 1900 C and all 1950 have 4 valve heads. Hope this helps.

I believe that most 1900's had the 2 valve head 4-53 but have heard that some real late 1900's had the 4 valve head Detroit.Is this correct?

All 1950's had the 4 valve head 4-53.The 4 valve tractors will sure make lots more noise than the 2 valve ones.

all 1900-1950 gm's had fuel coolers and two fuel filters. Heat if one factor that caused injectors to seize. When they ran low on fuel is when the most problems where. I think by the time the 1900 where around all the 4-53's had four valve heads.

As I understand it all 1900s had two valve heads, My 1900 has a two valve head and no cooler.

pull the valve cover off and look 4valves 4valve head 2 valves 2 valve head simple!

Only way I know to check 2 or 4 valve is pull rocker arm cover look for 2 or 4 springs per clyinder,,we run some 4-71s, but are power units, I never seen that fuel cooler deal,I cant remember seeing it in the book either ,,,Bill
