looking at a Hesston 1014 Hydro Swing hay mower. Does anyone have good or bad knowledge of this machine? I understand they seem to work better with higher HP tractors so my 1850 Diesel Oliver should be a good match. What could I expect to pay for this unit? Does anyone have knowledge of parts or operators manuals for this machine also? Thanks

Dells farmer,
If I remember right, the 1014 has short rolls. You can't spread the hay out far enough on first cutting. Maybe you will be chopping all of that cutting so it wouldn't matter. But, if you are going to bale it, you'll have trouble getting it dry in the windrow. That's been my experience. Other than that, they seem to be a good machine. Depending on condition, I would say one here in Iowa would bring $1000-$1500. This would be a late 70's machine??

Is there a serial number source indicating what year machine it is?

None of my farm equipment guides show build years for this model. The Hesston dealers should have this information.
