my motto. However, time has come to replace clutch in my 550 Dsl. I will be doing this soon as the other tractor is down and wetlands are becoming plantable. Hoping to squeak out the planting then replace the clutch.

Question is this - If I am going to split this rig, what other maintenance should I do while "inside"?

As an aside I am thinking of replacing PTO clutches since rig would be down. I just got done doing the brakes. I will not be messing with injector pump, injectors, fuel system as all works fine.

Thanks for all humor!! That is part of what makes this forum enjoyable :)

As to crops to be planted earlier this yr. I was thinking crawdads but since water has receded plan to resume traditional row crops.

RAB - I will check the pressure plate etc. The clutch is just starting to slip in the higher gears and as such will be replacing before it becomes more of a problem.

I was really looking for comments of other common repairs I should do while rig is split (cost avoidance) for the future just as RAB suggested.

There is an alternative to the topic line
It's 'Fix it BEFORE it breaks'
That way it should not fail during an important work phase!
Just hope you don't crack the flywheel surface through overheating or score it, if rivets are proud. If you do, that will cost you much more in the long run, as the next clutch won't last as long as it should.
Just my 2p worth.
