My brother just overhauled the engine in the old 550. It only has about 18 psi at 2000rpm. Seems a little low to me, but I need another opinion. Thanks

When I frist started up my tractor I had no real oil pressure, after checking it out I found oil flow but it would not build pressure. I did not rebuild my motor it had all ready been done. but had never been started. I final found the 2 oil pasages that did not get plugged after the block had been hot tank for cleaning. It took a while to find them, if you have any questions feel free to E-mail me. I asked around but got no real answers. I final went to a old oliver dealer who was kind enough to let me look at a manul, where I could see where the plugs sould be. If you only 18 psi at 2000, you can not have any at a idle, I would not run it untill I had the problem fixed. It could just be the resristor in the oil fillter.

Not to sound simple, but is the restrictor still in the oil fillter. I purchased a 55 in pieces and had low presure at frist, restrictor was missing .I now have about 45# at 2000 rpm

The 550 has the old style engine that squirts oil down from the top. They will run fine at that psi.I think the book says not to run them lower than 8 psi.
