Wondering if anyone has recently rebuilt their hydra power drive. If so, How much is the rebuild kit, or do you just buy what you need?

I just had ours out of our 1850. I didn't have to rebuild it, but had to disassemble anyhow. They are very simple units to overhaul and requires no special tools. What is wrong with yours? Does it slip in under or direct. Ours slipped in under because the sprag wore out. We had it out about 3 years before because the one sealing ring around the direct clutch pack wore out and broke also ruining the fork that supplies the pressure. The sprag alone is around $250 and the seal kit is around $200 like the other guy said. Clutches are probably around $300 for the frictions and seperator plates. THe seal went bad in ours letting the oil run out the center of the shaft, all caused by a failed pilot bearing on the input shaft. About the only other problem you might find is that the countershaft is shot where the sprag rides and the inside of the gear. This could be big bucks. The output shaft on models with the over/under costs around $1300. These have a tendency to wear out because of the nature of the sprag clutch biting a hold .

The last one I had overhauled ran a little over $700.00. I think that the seal kit alone is over $200.00. Parts are getting more expensive all the time. My advice is to find a dealer with alot of experience on these....it will be well worth it! Good Luck.

Dennis,
My 1755 has a hydra power drive (that a former owner installed) rather than the correct over/under drive for this model. It seems to work fine. I would consider switching it back to over/under if you are interested in my hydra power drive - even though I'm not particularly looking for additional projects right now.
