I am getting ready to take my Oliver 1955 to the first local tractor pull. I am just wondering how much should I turn the fuel up to. I think it's about 115hp now. It's been higher before. What do you all think I should turn it up to? Thanks

Well, some are of the opinion that the 310 was 'turned up' too high out of the factory and that it should be detuned to about 80 hp. If you know that the rods, bearings, and most importantly, the new updated rod bolts are in good condition and the other updates have been done, ie one-piece wrist pin bushings, I wouldn't be afraid to pull it at 150 hp. I don't know that the 310 is capable of much more than that with the stock head, nozzles, and turbocharger, as when you start making too much smoke, power actually decreases from not enough air (boost pressure). I'd only lug it at that level intermittently, as in pulling, but the updated 310s can and have performed at 120, 125 hp pulling all day long, day in and day out, year after year. Also would depend what rpms you run. I run the 310 that I pull with at 3000 rpms, but don't let it run that very long, just down the track, not while roading it. Best of luck in the pulling season ahead. Feel free to post pictures in the winner's circle!
