I agree with the other responses. One thing I found ,when replacing mine, was that the new brakes were too tight. They rubbed all the time even adjusted as loose as they could be. I found out that I was missing the brake cover shims. AGCO wanted $18 each. I bought a used one, from the dealer, and used it as a template for making my own. I bought some scrap sheet metal for $6 and made 5 more. I used 3 shims per side and that took care of the problem. Hopefully your shims are still there.

Hello Ole, I'll be interested in hearing how the repair goes. I'll need to do mine after this summer. Let us hear how it went when the time comes.

Replace the discs if they are worn, clean all oil from mating surfaces, and put a light coating of moly grease on the balls and ramps. Be sure to adjust loose enough so they don't drag. You'll have nice brakes.

Dean has it right, they are good brakes if you keep them clean. Problem starts with rust and dust form the brakes being adjusted to tight, make sure there is free travel with the break pedal around and inch or two is good. If the break housing is warm after extended running the break is adjusted to tight. I live in south western Pa. where there are real hills and believe me we need brakes, forward and backward.I have run and 1850 for 20 years and they have been relined one time.
