Hey, I got another question for you guys-
Got a flyer in the mail today from my local massey dealer that has an 1855 listed for $7900!! I recently looked at it in the dark, and it has a new paint job on it, however i did notice alot of flaws with the paint job. (not very complete) I couldnt get it started because the batteries are weak and it waas pretty dam cold out at the time. I would love to hear it run but 7900 is way out of my price range, even if I trade in my 1755 with the loader on it. Then I would also have to buy a new loader. How much should an average 1855 run? even onew with a new paint job and overhaul? 7900 seems alot on the steep side. Donovan from Wisconsin

Hi Don, I have read through all the posts and I would say that 7,900 is way too much for any 1855. If I was you, I would do the Perkins conversion to your 1755 if the 310 gives up over re-building it, and then you will have a new tractor basically, and its then a green 2-85. Just a shame sometimes when you have to spend so much money, been there myself...

I bought my 1855 with out a cab, poor tires, 3000 hrs with a fair to sick engine at an auction for $3,200. I typically see 1855 tractors around this area sell for $3,000 to $5,000 all the time. I would not spend more than $5,000 for an 1855, and it would have to be real nice to pay that for it. Just my 2 pennies.

IMHO..... .

if the tires are new/near-new the price is on the high side of average.

if it needs tires, he's too high, period.

Cabless 1855 in good original shape, tires lots of tread but cracked, everything worked, $6000.

1955 w/repaint, cab, tires 30%, everything works, dlr asking $5900 would p[robably take $5700 or less.

Hey D13, Tell me more about the 1855 & 1955 you mentioned. Are these yours or in your area? Where are you located?

1955 is on Tosch's lot in Capac MI (Port Huron, at the base of the thumb). The 1855 was in Jackson Mi and is gone. It came with an International 6 bottom that I figured I could get $50 scrap for and a much welded back blade.

I keep getting the urge to buy the 1955 but I think I need a barn first.

Hello Don
Local dealer down here in southern wiS every now and then has a 1855 for around 4000 to 5000. Bought a baskets case converted 1855 it has a 1850 front with the perkins in it. About 1500 on a rebuilt motor new brakes and rebuilt hyd pump. This also came with a dead and stripped 1850 also. Got to say I did not pay much for it but does run good. Still trying to get it ready for feild work this spring.

I have seen 1855's priced and sold for up to $9000. $7900 is within reason if the tractor is in good condition and has the engine update. Tires would make a difference as well. Also, you might come out better advertising your 1755 in the classifieds section of this forum, as tractor dealers tend to not give a good value when trading in. I'm sure there are people that would desire a 1755 w/loader.

I was also thinking of putting it on the market myself, maybe not with the loader, but I bought the tractor from them about 3 or 4 years ago for about 3200, as is. Big mistake as the tractor has made me spend about 20,000 so far in repairs, and the engine is still smoking. Been to the shop probably 5 or 6 times in the last year. (shifter fork & brakes, clutch-new 13" 1855 clutch, coolant leak in oil, busted gears in rear end-now 1855 rear, a few others I cant even remember right now. The 1855 had decent, larger 18.4-38 rears, mismatched 3 & 4 rib tires on front, (but then again, so does mine) Couldn't hear run and don't know about the engine updates, but looks sharp. I thing I would get a 1 yr. warranty on it, because obviously it was in the shop. My 1755 wasn't.

Geez, $20,000 in repairs? Can I borrow your checkbook, cause I could get four nearly perfect Olivers that would go out tomorrow and work 1500 acres for that kind of dough. Sometimes you have to know when to say when. Are you sure you weren't buying your parts at that *other* green dealer?

Well, If I had that kind of money, I would already have gotten a new tractor, something with a warranty on it. Or atleast a nice 5.9 conversion that would run like a top. I wish I could say when, but after sticking so much in, you hate to let go because of one more small repair. Just hope the heck that nothing goes wrong now for a while.
